Wikihood

Wikihood is a pretty awesome app for the iPad. And it's free. It shows you wikipedia entries on a map, which is very educational when examining one's immediate vicinity. Now I know what the official name of that suicide barrier on the Prince Edward Viaduct is called.

Backgrounding

The main thing I miss about not jailbreaking this iPad is the ability to background an app. This comes in especially handy with ikeepass when you need to make two trips away from safari to the app -- one to copy the username and the other to copy the password. Without backgrounding, the second trip requires you to 1) reload the keepass database, 2) re-enter the password, 3) scroll down to the sub-menu with the login details, and 4) copy the password. With backgrounding enabled for ikeepass on a jailbroken device, you can bypass steps 1-3. Waaaaaay easier.

Bookmarklets

I wish there was an easy way to add a "buzz this" bookmaarklet to ipad's mobile safari bookmark bar. Even when I am able to copy the JavaScript URL (in atomic browser), I am still not able to paste or edit the URL field in mobile safari's "add bookmark" dialog.

IPad and blogger preview

Wow. I just touch typed an entry and hit preview in the blogger compose window and a new safari window opened showing a blank preview. Returning to the original composing window revealed that my compose window had been reset -- all my typing was gone. I guess I got some typing practice out of the experience!

P.S.: I see now that what I typed was saved in the blogger posts list as a draft. So it wasn't a complete disaster.

USB power

My iPad's battery had drained so I bought a spare USB sync/power cable from the Techknowspace on Front Street near Spadina. Used the cable to connect iPad to a Mac Pro. It took approximately three hours to power up the battery to 30 percent -- which was enough for reading on the way home from work. But I had thought the USB power from a Mac Pro would charge faster than that. When the screen was on, the iPad displayed "not charging", so I kept the screen off for the charge.
